Percy Jackson
Have you ever scrolled through social media and stopped at one of those Buzzfeed quizzes that tell you what you relate to by having you choose your favorite color or food?
What about one that tells you what Greek god you would be most like?
Well, the idea of Greek gods is the topic of this blog and the book series Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan.
It is believed that there were twelve gods and goddesses that ruled Mount Olympus in ancient Greece. These twelve gods and goddesses consisted of:
Zeus: god of the sky and king of Olympus
Poseidon: god of the sea
Ares: god of war
Aphrodite: goddess of love and beauty
Hera: goddess of women, marriage, and queen of gods
Demeter: goddess of harvest and agriculture
Athena: goddess of war and wisdom
Apollo: god of the sun, music, poetry, art, and more
Artemis: goddess of the hunt and the wild
Hephaestus: god of fire, metalworking, and sculpting
Hermes: The messenger god
Dionysus: god of wine, theater, and fertility
(these gods play a big role in the background of this story, and they impact the characters hugely. Hopefully, this takes you back to middle school history class when you learned about this and other things like hieroglyphics for the topic of Ancient Egypt)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is about a teenage boy who has a lot of problems. Problems some students may have in reality, like the lack of ability to focus for long periods. Have you ever done something interesting that you couldn't seem to explain? Similar to situations like that, this boy starts to do stuff that isn't quite something a normal person would be able to do. He ends up meeting new people that are special just like him, finding out he is a child of one of the gods,(specifically a forbidden child), and goes on a quest to save these gods from fighting over something important that was stolen. I am not sure if stealing would be considered easy or hard, but whatever it is, it sure does happen a lot in the real world.
Like the amusement park in Williamsburg VA, Busch Gardens (Which is a pretty awesome and super fun park!), This boy and his friends travel to different locations and meet some of the actual Greek gods in search of the thief and to further their relationships with them. Maybe these kids will find the thief, maybe the gods will fight, or maybe something tragic will happen, if you haven't read this book before, I recommend reading it because of the excitement and thrill! This book is an easy read and a great way to pass the time.
Rick Riordan began by writing mystery novels for adults and the older population. He started writing The Lightning Thief as a bedtime story for his oldest son.
Great connections from percy jackson to the greek gods
