From the Game Show, The Hunger Games

Panem is home to many people split into districts or different locations over an area of land. There are twelve remaining districts as the thirteenth was bombed by the Capitol because of rebellion amongst the people. Each of the thirteen districts is tasked with certain jobs to deliver to the Capitol to receive supplies in return, similar to the kids in The Maze Runner and society today with different jobs and majors. Besides the Capitol where all the upper class stay, the districts and their tasks are listed below:

District 1: Luxury items
District 2: Masonry and Defense
District 3: General Electronics
District 4: Fishing
District 5: Power and Electricity
District 6: Transportation
District 7: Lumber
District 8: Textiles
District 9: Grain
District 10: Livestock
District 11: Agriculture
District 12: Coal Mining
District 13: Nuclear Weapons

Is everyone scared of being pointed out over a specific something? Maybe or maybe not, but the children of Panem sure are afraid of name drawings during the reaping. The reaping is an event held in each district where everyone ages eighteen and under gets their names placed into a glass container to be picked from for the annual Hunger Games.

Two people from each district are selected to fight to the death in an area for the pleasure of the Capitol. They even fatten them up like pigs for slaughter before they leave, almost as a "thanks for unwillingly choosing to be our entertainment, we're gonna send you to die in about two days!!" That seems to be the base of many problems with the relationship between the districts and the capitol. Try watching young kids on television being sent to get killed in nothing more than a game, terrible. No wonder why these adults wouldn't be appreciative of the games and the upper class.

When I was younger, I used to always dress up and pretend to be my favorite character in the movies I watched. To this day I am still such a huge movie person!
Because normally reading the books comes before watching the movies, I'm the type of person who watches a movie first and reads the details in the books afterward. When the first movie came out in 2012 for the Hunger Games series, I watched it for the first time and immediately wanted to become like Katniss Everdeen with her powerful voice, the symbol of defiance and bold resistance of the Mockingjay, and of course, her bow and ability to hunt.  I would get so inspired that I'd play outside and set up targets to shoot with my kid's proof bow and arrow kit and try to take on the whole role of this character.  I've definitely grown out of the "become the character" phase, but I still love connecting with many of the characters I come across.

Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, spent no more than a year on this novel. Her inspiration for this book was from switching television stations! She went from a competition in a reality game show, to footage of an invasion of Iraq. Mixing these two together gave her the idea of writing The Hunger Games. Her novel earned her over twenty million dollars and quite an impact on the audience. About 700 ratings on this book give it a 4.7 which is a very accurate rating. This book gives a lot to those who like action and romance combined! There are also a lot of good characters as well!

What would you do if you lived in Panem and were selected for the next games? How well do you think you would be able to survive?

 Happy Hunger Games
